The Sour & Sweet Astrology of Afroman

An American hero's astrological journey to victory over the state machine
A little ray of light shone in on the world this month when the civil trial brought against Afroman by the Adams County sheriffs was deemed ridiculous by a jury of his peers. In the midst of war and chaos occupying the ethers, this news was a lemon scented blessing, bringing a smile to the faces and hearts to so many people that have witnessed the over arching abuse and control tactics that the “state”, in its many iterations, weaponizes against the people it supposedly serves. A sweet slice of justice was served.
I’m going to walk us through the transits to Afroman’s natal chart, from the initial raid to the courtroom victory. Note that we don’t have a timed chart, so we’ll just be looking at the aspects by sign, without the added bonus of having the houses of where these transits occurred.
The first chart we have is for the night that the raid happened in August of 2022 while Afroman was touring in Chicago. The sheriff’s department got a load of manufactured information from an informant who was only trying to keep her own ass out of jail. She had accused Afroman of selling drugs and having a dungeon in his basement (which does not exist), kidnapping women and holding them in this non-existent cell. With zero investigating of if any of this could possibly be true, a judge signed off on a warrant for 7 deputies to raid his property. They broke his front gate, kicked in his front door, terrorized his wife and two children and proceeded to search his house. He got some of their search caught on his security cameras, that is before one of the deputies cut the cord to the system. All to find nothing. Though they did leave with $5000 cash that night, of which only $4600 was returned to him eventually.
So here we have Mars at 1º Gemini, exactly squaring his natal Mars at 1º Virgo, and the Sun just hitting that final anaretic degree of Leo conjunct the fixed star Regulus. Talk about power plays. The Mars square has both of them ruled by Mercury, which is natally in Cancer, the sign of home and family. Meanwhile transiting Mercury is making its first opposition to Neptune in Pisces and in its pre-shadow period of an upcoming retrograde that happens about 2 weeks later. This is the opening of a bigger story that brings up themes around deception, collective perceptions of reality, proper order and processes, and how entities that are purported to be of service to their community and the collective may be corrupted and deceitful.
So while this is a terrible situation, with an invading energy coming at him, disturbing his family and environment with violence and initiating some momentary mental rage I’d imagine, we can see here that ultimately this will end up playing out in his favor as Gemini and Virgo are on the same journey and make amends eventually. Mercury’s rulership brings the alchemical process of transmutation into the forefront here, initiating a powerful life lesson of taking a negative power move and harnessing that energy to reclaim and reconstitute it to empower oneself. Which to quote Afroman from his testimony on the stand much later on, "I got the right to kick a can in my backyard, use my freedom of speech, turn my bad times into a good time, yes I do, and I think I'm a sport for doing so, because I don't go to their house, kick down their doors, flip them off on their surveillance cameras, then try to play the victim and sue them." He really nailed the lesson here.
With the Sun at 29º of Leo conjunct Regulus which is associated with fiery Mars energy, there’s an abundance of overt, authoritarian power that likes to be externalized here. Regulus imparts violence, destructiveness and short lived military action upon its activation, along with the ability for this energy to strengthen ones spirit, enhance generosity, independence and support one to rise above great hardship and have victory over enemies.
Within a month Afroman had come up with the idea to make a series of songs highlighting the antics and histories of the deputies that had invaded his home after the department refused to pay for damages, with footage taken from his home security cameras as material for the music videos. The first eye catching aspect here is the Moon conjunct his natal Neptune in Sagittarius, opening a portal to his creative genius and sharing this with his social media followers that are painting a picture of the larger injustices that had happened in a light hearted and pointed way. We also have Mercury retrograde in Virgo back to almost the same degree as the raid a month before, opposite transiting Neptune in Pisces for the second time. This is pointing the proverbial finger as to what was done under the ostensible reason of being of service. Mercury retrograde embodies the energy of the trickster and the opposition to Neptune also speaks to using his creative power to turn the tables.
Venus opposing his Jupiter speaks to the attempt to be reimbursed for the door and gate that were damaged during the raid and the refusal of this reasonable request. Jupiter in Aries has an over-inflated sense of righteousness and power that is denying Venus in Libra’s attempt to come to a somewhat harmonious conclusion to the matter. Also Jupiter is opposing his Pluto, amplifying the intensity of the conflict, as well as making it a much more public issue in regard to this being a larger violation of the social contract.
Mars is also conjunct his South Node in Gemini, which would imply that there’s been a big drain on his energy and he’s had to put some effort into taking this event in a direction that doesn’t completely take him out or stifle his mental state, communication and creativity. There’s some ancestral magic at work here as well, and he may have received some inspiration from how his ancestors have dealt with violations of justice in the past as Mars crept towards the South Node the whole time he was producing these songs.
March of 2023 was when the deputies filed a 4 million dollar civil suit against Afroman for defamation and the general emotional pain and turmoil he supposedly caused for bringing their behavior to light in the music videos. Pluto is at 29º of Capricorn signifying a final attempt for authoritarian power structures to maintain their control and status that has been in place for a long time. If they had any belief in astrology they would understand that Pluto’s eventual shift into Aquarius would be supporting the decentralization of power structures, returning it to individuals that have a radically different way of viewing and holding power that is much more humanitarian in nature.
Venus was conjunct Afroman’s Chiron in Aries triggering this overt attempt to benefit financially from the situation, as the deputies emotional pain is tied in with money. This is another opportunity for him to transmute this painful experience into the medicine needed to reclaim power in a more passive and creative way that perhaps in his younger days would have ignited a more aggressive response. As he eventually channeled this energy into making more music videos.
Mars in Gemini was still in a harmonic trine to his Uranus in Libra, so the surprise factor to this suit being filed against him would have definitely struck a nerve, catalyzing another spurt of creative word play and furthering his liberation from these forces that continue to try to put him in his place in the social order. Good luck trying to do that with this Uranus placement, ha. It will only work in his favor. Also notice that the Moon is back to that same conjunction with his Neptune, just like the day Lemon Pound Cake was released. Each attempt to diminish his presence is amplifying his creativity and turning them into teaching moments that inspire others. This could have been disheartening and confusing initially, but the visionary artistry he holds breaks through the illusions and just rises higher.
Jump forward 3 years and the trial begins with Mercury retrograde in Pisces, which is exactly opposite the Mercury retrograde in Virgo period that began this whole charade in 2022. It’s conjunct the North Node, amplifying the non-sensical effects that this placement has. The testimony of the officers against Afroman really embodied this energy as they could not have been more ill prepared to deal with the questions lobbed their way, putting their self-undoing on blast for the internet world to see. Meanwhile he used this energy in his cross examination to keep re-framing from the micro to the macro, and putting the issues in the larger context of his right to speak freely about the way that this whole situation was handled, and how his ultimate intent was to raise funds to repair the damage done to his property. The state prosecutor’s attempts to nail him on having ill intentions of destroying these officer’s lives had no where to land with Mars swimming in Pisces conjunct Mercury and the North Node. Afroman’s intentions were kept in the collective consciousness of human rights and the systemic violations of how state power has been used against the people it supposedly serves. This line up of the North Node, Mercury rx and Mars were all in a beautiful trine to his natal Venus and Saturn at this time as well, furthering his ability to come across as a caring and thoughtful citizen and father, wanting to protect his children and home.
The Moon in Aquarius was in a beneficial trine to his radically liberating Uranus this day giving him the ability to keep his emotions in check and come across as detached, cool and collected. He also was completing his Chiron return, a powerful year long transit of mastering the art of transmutation, which this whole journey has been a most potent teacher of. Now this is granting him the ability to teach and lead by example of how to deal with violent and aggressive attempts to overpower ones personal sovereignty. This marks the transition into elder hood.
The last big aspect here is Pluto in Aquarius opposing his natal Sun in Leo, which is a once in a lifetime transit that is happening for the next couple of years off and on. This is teaching him how to strengthen his purpose in life and use his power in ways that benefit humanity while radiating new depths of power and love. There’s a stripping away of personal will to read the energetics of what people at large are needing and provide this in ways that open new, unthought-of potentials. There’s a series of tests here that will continue to force him to develop new levels of diplomacy and integrity. There is a great amount of freedom that can come from allowing his heart to be transformed. This also speaks to a surge of energy putting his career as a performer on a much bigger stage, which has 100% happened since this blew up on the internet.
Two and a half days later the jury came back clearing Afroman of any wrongdoing in his actions and bringing forth a victory for all people in their expression of the 1st amendment. This occurred on the Pisces New Moon that was in a perfect supportive sextile with Uranus in Taurus, that brought that element of shock and surprise to the established security that officers usually have in a court of law. The people saw through the illusions and skewed biases of the state machine and the judge, which I’d also attribute to the Venus - Jupiter square, and Mars approaching a trine to Jupiter. For a moment at least, justice prevailed and corrupt power systems were seen for what they were. I wouldn’t be surprised if this initiated a song about the judges involved here, the one that signed that warrant and the egregiously biased judge in the trial. We’ll see!
